The changes regarding the relaxed dress code

COVID-19 has put many restrictions and changes on campus life at Kingswood Oxford. This includes loosening the dress code from formal to casual. This allows students to wear sports clothes or whatever they feel comfortable enough wearing on a daily basis.

Last year, KO had a more restrictive dress code. Students were required to wear button downs, dresses, skirts, blouses, and so on. This year, students who have sports must dress for the occasion, since they don’t have the opportunity to change clothes in the locker rooms.

For others who don’t have sports, they are also given the opportunity to follow the more casual dress code. Eighth-grader Ryan Sadowsky, who isn’t doing a sport this quarter, added his opinion on the situation. “I definitely like this dress code better than last year’s,” Ryan said. It gives me the option to wear more comfortable clothing,”

Although many prefer this new dress code compared to last year, some students do miss the more formal dress code, which gives students the option to look a little more presentable for classes and school. “I do miss going to school and looking ready to learn and more sophisticated,” eighth-grader Sasha Dausey said.

With COVID-19 restrictions loosening, KO may be expected to return to their more formal dress code. This means that students are expected to come to school in an outfit that is suitable for the more nicer dress code.

“I’ll miss the opportunity to wear sports clothes, but it will be nice to revisit the more formal clothes in my closet,” said English teacher Anasatia Quinn. “It’s a little bit of both.”

The pandemic allowed many students to express themselves in different forms of clothing that they weren’t allowed to wear last year. This form of expression is an opportunity that many are grateful for. As students wrap up the school year, a question still remains. Will this dress code continue for the future years to come?
