A needed resolution to America’s ongoing political discourse

In the 1960s, 1970s, and the modern day, the United States of America has been colossally divided politically. Democrats and Republicans, the two major parties of our nation, bear a gang-like, opposing attitude toward each other, which has led to a lack of cooperation. If only the Democratic Party and the Republican Party could put aside their differences in ideology and belief, and unify together, not as two separate parties, but as one powerful force, solutions to ongoing crises can be made. The enemy of the U.S. and its democracy is not the Russian Federation or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Rather, it is the fundamental unwillingness and the lack of partisanship and cooperation between Democrats and Republicans alike which has led to the U.S.’ major political disconnection.

Topics including race and religion now seemingly appear aligned under the identities of supporters of either Democrats or Republicans. While, in years before the early 21st century, topics such as race and religion became less “politicized” with the fact that Democrats and Republicans were more homogenous in regards to decision-making and relations. For example, both Democrats and Republicans supported priorities such as employment and national security.

However, it has grown gradually more difficult for Democrats and Republicans, over the years, to agree with each other on specific laws and acts. Because of the lack of harmony between Democrats and Republicans, neither party can arrive at a well-established, universal consensus when it comes to procuring decisions for the betterment of the people of the United States. Because of this divide, the results of decision-making may not be in the favor of all the people.

Additionally, following the aftermath of the 2022 midterms, the political divide remains. Republicans took the House of Representatives. Additionally, Democrats kept the Senate and will attempt to halt legislation arriving from the House of Representatives. America’s political divide, with the parties having such different ideologies and such a clan-like opposition to each other, has led to an imbalance of power and governance within the U.S. One party’s influence is at war with the other’s different political views, thus making it even more abundantly clear the sheer level of disharmony within the government.

In conclusion, Democrats and Republicans refusing to cooperate has divided the U.S. politically. Since the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the U.S. has upheld premises of self-reliance, responsibility, and freedom. However, with the clashes between Democrats and Republicans, the refusal to put aside their differences and work jointly, in unison with each other, has continued to stiffen and damage potential peaceful relations between them. The opposition within the political system has led Democrats and Republicans to bear their gang-like attitude towards each other which needs to and must end. The preservation of American governance is at stake.
