Seniors Kick off Their Year with Senior Sunrise Tradition

At 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, the senior class gathered on the turf to watch the sunrise; this annual tradition was a fun and reflective way to come together as a class to celebrate the start of senior year.

Senior year is filled with many milestones, memories, and goodbyes as seniors spend their last year at Kingswood Oxford. This event was a way for seniors to create fun memories with each other and set the tone for the rest of the year. Near the end of the year, there will be a similar event to close out senior’s last year at KO: a symbolic sunset.

For this year’s sunrise, some students came early enough to watch the actual dawn, while those who wanted to sleep in came later for the Parent Association-provided breakfast. After watching the sunrise, seniors enjoyed a hearty breakfast. There were doughnuts, bagels, muffins, juice, and other delicious breakfast items.

The whole event was organized by a few seniors, Form 6 President Jenna Kanaan and Vice President Leo Sussman, as well as Form Dean Ronald Garcia.

The turf was filled with music, seniors playing soccer, and friends having fun. Many people took pictures to remember the start of senior year and an essential moment in their high school journey. “I thought it was a cool way to begin the school year,” senior Owen Roy explained. “I had fun playing and chilling on the turf with my friends.” Others agreed with Owen that the senior sunrise will be a core memory in their senior year.

“Even though I had to wake up super early, it was fun hanging out with my friends and was a fun way to start my last year here,” senior Isabella Mendelovici said.

The senior sunrise was a success, remaining a fun tradition for the graduating class. Now, seniors are in the thick of challenging classes and college applications, and the class looks forward to coming together once more in the spring for the annual senior sunset.
