Senior Goodbye Profiles – Ishaan Bafna

As a dedicated member of the News and Investigative section, senior Head News Editor Ishaan Bafna has brought truth to life in both his writing and the world around him.

Starting as a freshman Associate Editor for News and Sports, then growing into a Head Investigative Editor, and eventually Head News Editor, Ishaan has left his mark on the Kingswood Oxford culture, and while undecided as to which college, he will continue it in the field of economics and mathematics.

Appropriately – based on his major and minor – some of the classes Ishaan will miss most will be math teacher Tracy Deeter’s economics and statistics courses and calculus with math teacher Denise Garcia. More unexpectedly, but understandably, he will miss AP U.S. History with history teacher Robert Kyff, and lastly, a Middle School fan favorite, history teacher Andrew Krugman’s 20th Century Political Ideology Course. “They have pushed me to go beyond what I’ve learned,” Ishaan said. He also mentioned that he’ll miss the annual YMUN and Mock Trial competitions. He noted the best part of clubs like these. “The camaraderie and connections you can form without necessarily being in the classroom,” he said.

Using what he learned across his years at Kingswood Oxford, whether directly or indirectly connecting back to his future degree, there is no doubt that they will prove beneficial.

More privately, Ishaan has had a passion for golf for a decade, which his father introduced to him. He has contributed to the varsity boys golf team by providing talent that he has developed both off and on campus. “I find playing and enjoying scenery to be a stress-reliever, allowing you to escape whatever’s going on,” Ishaan said.

Ishaan knew who he was, even from an early age. “I’ve always felt more of a numbers person,” he said. From this, he enjoys keeping up with the stock market and world news – very fitting considering his role in the newspaper. Simultaneously, he viewed joining the KO News as a way to step out of his comfort zone, ultimately thankful for the choice because it allowed him to report and write articles relevant to the KO community, as well as develop key writing and conversational skills.

I think we all can follow Ishaan’s lead and legacy as he graduates and moves on to bigger and better things: either by stepping out of our comfort zone, finding our place, or continuing a lifelong passion to find that escape that we all need in our lives. While it’s directed to the KO News, I believe that Ishaan’s final words of wisdom can be said for anything anyone does in their life: “Be ambitious.”
