Musician of the Month: Morgan Siegel

Arts

“From a young age I knew that [singing] was going to be a big part of my life,” senior Morgan Siegal said. Morgan has always enjoyed singing at concerts in front of an audience, where she is able to show off all of the repertoire they work tirelessly to perfect, as well as her abilities as a performer.

At KO, Morgan is a part of Outlook and Oxfordians, KO’s select vocal ensembles. She enjoys the variety of music that the groups sing. “I like how there’s a lot of freedom to explore different genres of music,” they said. “We’ve done religious songs and songs in different languages, but they’ve recently been branching out to more jazz songs and more pop songs as well.”

Outlook Director David Baker said that Morgan’s versatility as a singer and her sheer passion for and dedication to her craft adds a lot to the group.  “Morgan can sing anything from tenor to a soprano one and sing really well in those ranges.” Mr. Baker said. “Her overall approach and enthusiasm about music makes Morgan a great musician.”

Choral director Steve Mitchell discussed how important Morgan is as a member of Oxfordians. “She’s always been a really great musician with an extremely powerful voice,” Mr. Mitchell said.

Morgan has also been largely involved in the theater program at KO. Beyond being a featured ensemble member in this year’s production, “9 to 5,” she was also a part of the Fall Play. “Although [the Fall Play] was a big time commitment, it was really fun and helped me alleviate some stress,” they said.

When Morgan thinks back to her past performances at KO, she said that though she has loved all of them, her favorite experience was being a part of the production “Chicago” during her freshman year. “It was just such a new experience because it was my first time doing community theater, and I loved it,” she said.

Outside of KO, Morgan is part of the Connecticut Women’s Choir at the University of Hartford.

Morgan plans to study musical theater in college, and she has already auditioned for multiple college programs. We wish Morgan the best of luck as she continues to pursue her passions!
