In his third year on the boys varsity basketball team, junior center Devin Wolff has established himself as a consistent and reliable leader.
A known baseball star, Wolff excels at all of the sports he participates in. He has been playing basketball for years. From playing on a club team throughout elementary and middle school, to being a part of the KO JV team his freshman year, to now as a star-player on the varsity team, he has certainly developed his skill and playing style tremendously. Currently, he plays as a forward, but he has played multiple positions throughout his career, including point guard and center.
As a multi-sport athlete, Wolff takes pride in his training and maintenance of his fitness. He takes many steps to better himself both on and off the court. “I lift a lot, which I think helps out with being able to match up against the guys that are bigger than me,” Wolff said. “I also like to in practice play against the kids that are better than me because then it makes me better.” By pushing himself outside of his comfort zone, Wolff is constantly improving.
On the court, Wolff is a presence that every team needs. “My style of play is definitely different from other people’s,” Wolff said. “I don’t really score as much, but I do about everything else.” Every team needs a versatile, reliable player like Wolff. His drive and determination helps lead the team to success. When Wolff does find the basket, it tends to be off rebounds. His hustle on both sides of the court allows him to grab missed shots both on offense and on defense.
Wolff and the boys varsity basketball team have really hit their stride so far this year with a record of 11-1. One of the highlights of their season so far has been the KITs. Wolff misses the cheers from the “Wyvern Den,” the Upper School student fan section, and can’t wait for the return of fans. “My favorite part of the the season is definitely KIT’s because of the energy that everyone has and how loud the gym got this year,” Wolff said. Luckily for Wolff and the team, fans have been allowed to reclaim the stands.
Wolff credits much of his success to his teammates, like junior guard Co-captain Chase Fountain, and junior forward Co-captain Gavin Griffiths. “I couldn’t do what I do without my teammates because we all make each other better and play our roles,” Wolff said. Wolff is looking forward to the upcoming home games of the season when the boys take on Loomis Chaffee on Wednesday, Feb. 9 and Kent School on Saturday, Feb. 12.
