Player of the Month: Jack Krieble

The KO boys varsity squash team is capping off another dominant season, boasting an impressive 10-5 record and second place finish overall at Squash Nationals in Philadelphia. While there are many factors in their success, one of them is junior Co-Captain Jack Krieble. Krieble has been the No. 1 on the KO team and has helped the team in more ways than one by being a great player and showcasing his leadership in the role of captain.

“Overall this season I played well,” Krieble said,  “and I loved watching the team improve.” Throughout the season, Krieble had a record of 15-4 throughout his matches.

Krieble got into squash in elementary school and was deeply motivated by his father and brother. “They got me into the sport and helped me a lot,” Krieble said. His brother also played competitive squash. Krieble continued playing squash at KO and offered high praise for Head Coach Robby Lingashi who has abundant experience playing squash. “Krieble is a great player,” Coach Lingashi said. “He always works hard during practice with his fundamentals and leads us in matches.”

One highlight in Krieble’s season was the game against Westminster School on Jan. 10. While the Wyverns lost the game 4-3, all of the games were very competitive and went into a fifth set, including Krieble’s match against the Westminster No. 1. “You don’t get many even matched games in squash, but that one was close,” Krieble said. Krieble lost by a narrow margin but highlighted the game as a learning opportunity. “Despite the outcome, I’m satisfied knowing that I fought my hardest and played to the best of my ability,” Krieble said.

As a co-captain, Krieble is a leader on the court. “He helps his peers improve with their skills on the court,” Coach Lingashi said. “Krieble brings his experience and helps us a lot during matches.” Krieble is also an impressive player outside of school. He practices at the courts at Hartford Golf Clu and also plays tournaments as he is ranked in the US Squash. “I want to play more competitive matches,” Krieble said.

As for his future, Krieble looks to play collegiate squash after he graduates from KO. “I am looking to play when I am older and hopefully collegiate squash,” Krieble said. He has had an impressive season this year, and we hope he continues to dominate during the offseason and during his senior year. “I look forward to seeing how our team improves next year,” Jack said. We wish him the best of luck!
