Senior Farewell – Emma Barringer

Features

Emma Baringer has been an essential member of the KO News, adding incredible talent, work-ethic, and collaboration to the team.

Emma joined KO News as a sophomore after taking journalism as a freshman. She has had a breadth of experience in the KO News department as an Associate News Editor, Head Investigator Editor, and Managing Editor for News, Sports, and Investigative.

During her eighth grade summer, Emma attended The School of the New York Times and studied abroad at Oxford University. She was encouraged to take risks during her journalism assignments and interviewed random strangers that she met on the street. “It was a transformative experience because we had to step out of our comfort zone,” Emma said. This early journalism experience launched Emma’s curiosity and passion for in-depth interviewing.

Emma is most proud of her most recent article about the Senior Thesis requirement at KO. Her topic led her to investigate seniors’ varying perspectives on their thesis and to gather statistics. “I was able to investigate a topic of interest which is something I continue to love to do, and I am so thankful I have been given these moments on the KO News,” she said.

As a member of the KO News, Emma has enjoyed reading a wide variety of articles written by people with different writing styles. “The great thing about the paper is that no article sounds the same,” Emma explained. “Everyone is able to have a unique voice.”

One of Emma’s fondest memories this year was News Day and putting the paper together with peers over a good bagel. “Writing for KO News has enhanced my writing and communication skills, as well as taught me valuable lessons about being an effective leader,” she reminisced.

Emma is thankful for the friends she has made during her time on KO News and her skills as Managing Editor has left a lasting mark on the department.

The KO News thanks Emma for her hard work and devotion to the paper and wishes her all the best on the next chapter of her journey.
