Being busy is a good thing

Opinion

Many people agree that being busy is the worst. Having no time to rest makes people believe they have no time to themselves or to get other important things done. Being busy can elevate stress to new extremes. However, being busy is a good thing for many reasons. Having a tight schedule allows for increased time management and productivity throughout the day, and develops people’s sense of belonging in the communities they are active within.

Time management is a significant skill to learn. As we get older, there will be more stress to balance in our lives, and more responsibilities we will have to endure. Learning how to manage time effectively and efficiently allows us to get a sense of our own limits and capabilities when it comes to stress. School is meant to be a challenge, and allowing ourselves to be stressed sometimes can be a good thing; it is practice to be better equipped with managing our stress in the real world. Time management takes practice; it can be difficult to figure out what works best for you. However, experimenting with how you manage your time best while you are still in high school will be beneficial later on. This is because in the future, it will be easier to adjust and manage more responsibilities since you will know what works right for you.

Another aspect about time-management is that it is hard to practice when you have too much time on your hands. It creates more lenience and more time possible to procrastinate, which ultimately can lead to stress anyways. So either you can be busy and stressed, or do nothing and still be stressed anyways. Being busy limits procrastination because the busier you are, the more confined you are to a certain time that you must get your work done. Feeling like you have a certain schedule where you need to work efficiently is effective for productivity and limiting procrastination.

Looking back on my senior fall, I can say that the more busy I was, the better. Having too much time on a person’s hands leads to procrastination and a feeling of discontentment with one’s accomplishments. Instead, going out and doing something allows a person to truly feel like they have been productive. Personally, being on my phone all day does not make me feel good. Being busy also allows you to know more about yourself and what you are most passionate about and enjoy doing. Although not doing anything during the day may be more comfortable, doing the things that you love is much more beneficial. You will not remember a day where you are just sitting around nearly as well as a day where you are busy. Being busy is something that you can be proud of. Would you rather tell people that you just sat around all day doing nothing, or would you rather be able to share all that you had accomplished? People look up to those who can handle busy times.

Even stress is beneficial in some aspects. This temporary period of negativity can eventually lead to a sense of relief and accomplishment when the work is completed. Having stress from a busy schedule can be helpful.

A lot of the time, there are many other people out there who have similar passions, and you just need to get out and find your people. Getting out and finding a community that shares your passions and interests is amazing. It feels as though you have a support system and that people understand you.

Overall, I recommend keeping a busy schedule filled with activities that you love, because of the many benefits that it involves. It will improve your mental health, stability, and ability to withstand difficulties and stresses that many could not keep up with.
