Senior Goodbye Profiles – Adam Gold

Features

As the KO News turns over the leadership to younger students, we send off senior Adam Gold, who has been active in journalism since the Middle School.

Being family friends with former Sports Editor Koby Braustien ‘22 meant Adam was introduced to the KO News at an early age, prompting him to take journalism in seventh grade.

Involved in the sports department, Adam enjoyed writing about various athletic events around campus and making friends with the other writers. “I’ve had a positive experience,” Adam said. “It’s been a lot of fun working in the sports department.”

When reflecting on his time in the KO News, his favorite article wasn’t exactly a sports article, but instead a feature on equipment manager and multi-sport coach Matthew Kocay. “The Kocay article was the craziest to write,” Adam said. “I reached out, explaining my article idea, and asked if I could swing by the locker room to talk with him. I walked in thinking it was gonna be maybe five minutes. I still have the voice memo on my phone, and it is 42 minutes long. It was ridiculous, and I got his whole life story.”

Adam will be attending Lehigh University in the fall, and he is already paying attention to their newspaper and the opportunities for him to continue it in college. “I definitely want to continue writing,” Adam said. “I’ve been keeping up with Lehigh’s newspapers. They’re very active in the spring.”

Adam has learned a lot through his time with the KO News, and he is excited to use those skills throughout his future. “I’ll think about being thorough with my writing process,” Adam said, “correcting and double-checking. That was something that really was useful when I took to essay writing for other classes. I think that’ll be the most valuable part.”
