Imagine this: It’s a nice summer morning. You’re getting out of bed, and your body is aching from sunburns and mosquito bites. You throw on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, and step outside, just to be blown away by the intense heat waves rushing to attack your body. You start to sweat profusely and are forced to step back inside to protect yourself from more sunburns. After experiencing all of these feelings, you then ask yourself: When will it be autumn again?
I am more than ecstatic to say that autumn has returned and it is better than ever, especially right here at KO. When I walk around campus, I feel like I’m in a movie; the leaves gracefully fall from the trees surrounding the beautiful Senior Green. The chilly weather means a lot more sweaters, jackets, and jeans. And I don’t think I can go a day without seeing someone holding a pumpkin spice drink.
Fall sports are also back in season; games take place throughout the week, and everyone is checking the schedule to find out when the next event will be. The Wyvern Den leaders never fail to remind us what teams are playing and encourage everyone to show up. Whether it’s watching the football team dominate their opponents or watching the volleyball team work hard on the court, these fun games increase school spirit and are such a great way to kick off the school year.
Outside of school, there are so many fun fall activities to do. You could visit a pumpkin patch, get lost in a corn maze, go apple picking with your friends, or enjoy a night at a fair! Other activities include baking pumpkin treats, carving funny jack-o’-lanterns, or staying in for a cozy movie night. You could also take a long walk and notice the colorful, changing leaves that fall to the ground as you walk by. These little activities may seem small, but they truly make the season so much more special.
One of my favorite things about fall is that Halloween is right around the corner. For one, you have the opportunity to eat a gigantic amount of candy with no one telling you that you can’t. But on the other hand, the excitement of watching scary movies, enjoying a fun costume party, or even going to Fright Fest makes the Halloween season so thrilling.
Overall, I think it is safe to say that fall is the best time of the year. From the cooler weather, colorful leaves, sports, fairs, cozy nights, Halloween festivities, and pumpkin spice everything, there is always something to look forward to during this season. I will happily trade the sunburns and mosquito bites for pumpkin carving and sweater weather. There is something about fall that makes life a little more exciting, and I am definitely not complaining that it is here again.
