Among KO

In the Middle

“Among Us” has taken a storm here at KO. Many students this year in the middle school have been playing.

“It’s very fun and a trend,” eighth-grader Ethan Miller said. Ethan began playing “Among Us” when he was younger and on average spends 3-4 hours a day on the app playing with his friends.

Many students at the Middle School play games before class, during advisee group, and after school.

In this game, participants can either be a crewmate or the imposter. Imposters have to try to either sabotage the game or eliminate other players to win. As a crewmate, participants have to complete tasks and try to escape the imposters to survive.

Eighth-grader Hadley Crowther started playing “Among Us” because many of her friends and classmates played. “I like this game because it’s entertaining and fun to play with other people,” Hadley Crowther said.

While the students at KO love playing the game, some teachers find it to be a distraction in school.

Middle school Latin teacher Samantha Cassidy began to take notice of the game when students in her advisee group began playing constantly during their meetings.

Ms. Cassidy allows her advisees to play “Among Us” every Friday during their meetings as something fun to do at the end of the week. However, when asked how she would feel about having “Among Us” allowed to be played frequently in school, she said it would be a distraction from students’ work.

“My worry with allowing students to play all the time is that it will become a distraction during class, or during mask break, or during lunch, when it would be nice to have students talking to each other and focusing on class,” Ms. Cassidy said.

Many students at KO have enjoyed playing this increasingly popular game. “Among Us” is certainly among the KO community.
