Ever since its rollout on Sunday, Nov. 8, the COVID-19 vaccine has posed some questions for the country and even the whole world. Here at KO, some students and teachers offered their thoughts about the vaccine, use of masks, and the UK variant.
Students and teachers alike showed minimal to no concerns or worries about the vaccine, as it has been three and a half months since its release.
As of February, the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed to the elderly and to frontline and essential workers. Afterward, it will be handed out to the general public. However, there’s still question as to when half the country could be vaccinated. English teacher Anastasia Quinn and eighth-grader Noah Brown are hopeful that it will be soon. “By July or August, so the summer,¨ Noah said.
Still, they are aware of the side effects and the new UK variant. “I can’t wait for the day when we go mask-off,” Ms. Quinn said, “I can’t wait to see the smiles on everyone’s faces.” Noah agreed with enthusiasm. “Absolutely,” he said.
Sixth-grader Marco Ramirez was asked if he was excited or scared about taking the vaccine. “No, not scared at all,” he said.
Students and teachers did not seem to be worried the vaccine is here and almost ready to be distributed across the country.
At this time only teachers can start getting vaccinated around the end of our spring break, and high schoolers aged 16 and older can get vaccinated starting in May.
