Back in January, videos of Congresswoman Majorie Taylor Greene resurfaced, which caused major issues for her. With Donald Trump no longer in Washington, there should have been healing for the Republicans, but that was not the case. Politicians like Greene subscribe to conspiracy theories. Greene is a Trump loyalist and a devoted follower of Q’Anon. The theories and statements made by Greene promote violent extremist behavior, and she should be expelled from Congress, not just stripped of committees.
Q’Anon is an extreme right-wing conspiracy theory cult, and Marjorie Taylor Greene has given these theories a place in Washington. In addition to being a proud and open member of the Q’Anon cult, Greene has been pushing election lies, along with claiming there was nothing wrong with the Capitol insurrection on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Representative Greene was seen in a video harassing Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg, only one year before she ran for Congress. In this video, she mocked him, calling him an idiot and a liar. She claimed that school shootings like Parkland and Sandy Hook were faked and that the left used paid actors to convince people that the United States needed gun control. These comments are absolutely despicable for anybody to make, but especially despicable for an elected official of the United States.
In addition to her other comments, she also liked tweets that were in support of shooting prominent Democratic officials such as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. A person tweeted at her, “Now do we get to hang them ?? Meaning H & O ???,” in reference to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. In her response, she did not denounce these statements. “Stage is being set,” Representative Greene said. “Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.” Different people will take these statements to mean different things, but they are pretty clear in showing Greene’s support for killing prominent Democratic politicians. Greene’s response to these claims was not to deny that she believed them; it was to say that various people have had access to her social media accounts.
Replying to tweets about killing Democratic politicians isn’t the worst of Greene’s social media presence. Greene posted an online ad for her election campaign, and in this ad she was posing with a semi-automatic weapon. Now, posting with a gun isn’t a campaign tactic that is unique to Greene; many Republicans employ this idea in their ads. Greene took it to another level when she posed with her gun and a poster of three Democratic members of the House. On the poster, along with pictures of Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the poster read, “The Squad’s Worst Nightmare.” This advertisement can be interpreted as a threatening message or just downright insensitive and tone deaf. Greene represents the immoral and heartless state of the Republican party.
The next purely insane conspiracy theory she has subscribed to in the past was claiming that the 9/11 terrorist attack was an inside job, which seems strange because she is incredibly Islamophobic. “The so-called plane that crashed into the Pentagon,” Representative Greene said. “It’s odd there’s never any evidence shown for a plane in the Pentagon.”All of these statements are downright stupid, and offensive to anyone who lost a loved one or was there themselves. She is not just a bigoted Republican; she embodies the insanity that exists within the United States. Only after intense scrutiny and fear of expulsion from Congress did she say that she believed it did happen.
Adding to her list of bigoted behavior, Greene often spews anti-Semitic and Islamaphobic conspiracy theories. On Facebook, Greene posted that the California wildfires were caused by Jewish space lasers. “Too many coincidences to ignore,” Representative Greene said. She blamed one space solar energy company for the space lasers. Greene has also made various statements alluding to the fact that she does not believe Muslims have a role in the U.S. government. She has had a lot to say in regard to Sharia Law, which is the body of law that is used to govern in many Muslim countries. She claims that Muslim leaders have no place in the American government. “An Islamic invasion into our government offices right now,” Representative Greene called Muslim congressmen. In addition to all of that, she made rude remarks about Representative Ilhan Omar. “That woman out of Minnesota who has got to wear a head covering,” Representative Greene said in reference to Representative Omar. She called her an illegitimate member of Congress because she was sworn in on the Quran, not the Bible. Somehow, Majorie Taylor Greene has been able to get away with racially and religiously motivated attacks, which shows the sad state of the Republican party. They are willing to be complicit in these despicable acts.
Greene is a racist, plain and simple. She subscribed to the “birther theory,” claiming that Obama was born in Kenya, which in and of itself is just stupid, but then she went so far as to say he was a “secret Muslim.” She also stated that black and Hispanic men were being held back by, “gangs and dealing drugs,” which is a racist stereotype.
To wrap up the long list of bigotted claims from Greene, she is also shockingly homophobic. Recently, she has been attacking the new pro-LGBTQ rights equality bill that was sent to the House of Representatives for a vote. “It has everything to do with attacking God and believers,” Greene said. This bill gives more protections to LGBTQ individuals, which stops discrimination. “I WILL BE VOTING NO TO THE DISGUSTING, IMMORAL, AND EVIL #EqualityAct,” tweeted Greene. This tweet embodies her clear beliefs on equal rights.
All of the actions of Representative Majorie Taylor Greene only got her kicked off the education and labor committees, but that was an insufficient response to these comments. Her statements and tweets show her true opinions. Spineless and weak leaders like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy have done nothing to censure her or expel her from the House. She represents an insane side of the Republican party and she is a product of the Trump era. Someone with these violent and extremely bigotted beliefs should not have a place in United States politics. People like her are an extreme embarrassment to the U.S. and to the Republican Party.
