On Monday, Oct. 18, at 9:15 a.m., the Form 5 Parents hosted the Black and Red Breakfast in the Mead Dining Hall. This event was a simple time for the Form 5 class to eat breakfast with one another and to interact with peers, advisors, and parents.
The Form 5 Parent Representatives organized the breakfast. They arranged everything from the food to the timing of the event. Junior Alyssa Temkin thought the parent’s hard work and dedication added to the success of the breakfast. “I am very grateful and thankful for the parent association, who provided us with a delicious meal,” she said. “They ensured that we had such a fun morning where our class could spend valuable time together.”
Sage Dining prepared a variety of breakfast options including waffles, bagels, an omelet bar, and many more delicious items. Since Halloween is nearing, candy was brought in for the class as well.
This was the first year hosting the Black and Red Breakfast and KO decided to set the event on the first day of spirit week. This added to the festive activities going on throughout the week. The breakfast allowed students time to chat with one another and to relax before attending classes.
Instead of going to an advisee group meeting, the juniors went to the breakfast. The event allowed the entire class to bond with each other. Form 5 Dean, Ronald Garcia, felt the event was a success in bringing the grade together. “Doing different things instead of advisee group, and being able to have everyone together is great,” he said. “A time to get together with friends and share breakfast together is a nice change.”
Since the juniors’ freshman year was affected by COVID, spending more time together this year has provided opportunities for more juniors to get to know one another. Junior Class President Garret Kelly thought the breakfast was important for this reason. “It’s quite important to host these sorts of events because it gives everyone in our form a chance to socialize and have a mental break after the first class and prepare for the rest of the day,” he said.
Due to the excellent planning of the parents, this breakfast allowed for the grade to share a wonderful experience together. The juniors could set aside their stress from schoolwork and classes and truly connect with each other. Mr. Garcia hopes for more events to be planned throughout the year for the junior class. And, because of the planning and success of the Black and Red Breakfast, future events are sure to be just as memorable!
