Micheal Bane enters the stage

Over the summer, Kingswood Oxford welcomed Micheal Bane as the new technical director of theater to campus upon the retirement of the former Director Mark Kravetz.

In this role, Mr. Bane teaches a stagecraft class, oversees the operation of any events inside Roberts Theater, and works with the rental office to help with bookings of events outside of KO.

Prior to joining the KO community, Mr. Bane was the technical director of theater at Berlin High School for eight years. He has also volunteered at The Repertory Theatre in New Britain. He started volunteering there when he was nine and credits his early experiences there as important reasons for developing a passion for theater. “My stepfather was one of the keyboard players for the musical at the time,” Mr. Bane said, “so at any other shows that he did at the theater I’d help out backstage, and it developed my love and passion for theater.”

Mr. Bane learned about the open position at KO through Executive Assistant to the Head of School Sherri Malinowski and Mr. Kravetz. Mr. Bane was excited about the opportunity to serve in this role, as it would allow him to continue working with students and to share his passion for theater. “This is something I’ve always loved doing, which is teaching students the tech side of theater,” he said.

Having worked for the company that runs the sound systems for several KO events, such as Commencement and the Prize Assembly, Mr. Bane knew that KO was a close-knit community even before he applied for the position. “Seeing Commencement and all the graduating seniors standing on the steps [of Alumni Hall] getting their pictures taken, I’ve always thought that I, too, would love to be on those stairs, getting a picture,” he said. “And sure enough, when we took the faculty and staff photos on those steps, it was very surreal and exciting for me.”

On behalf of the KO community we are delighted to have you join us on campus, Mr. Bane!
