2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing: road, track, or both?

Reviews

After standing back in the shadows for the last couple of years, Cadillac was expected to release something new, and the CT4-V is exactly that. There are two main trims for this car: the V-Series and the V-Series Blackwing.

The regular V-Series is the typical quick and heavy car Cadillac is known for producing. It comes with a 2.7L Twin-Turbocharged four-cylinder engine. You can purchase this car in either all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. However, the ambiance doesn’t match its luxury-brand competitors, which offer a more premium look and feel.

However, this article will not spend so much time on the regular CT4-V model but rather its big brother: the CT4-V Blackwing, starting at $59,940. The biggest difference in the Blackwing model is in the engine. The Blackwing has a 3.6L Twin Turbo V6 engine with 472 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. You can choose if you would like a six-speed manual transmission or a ten-speed automatic transmission. However, the Blackwing is not available in all-wheel drive, just rear-wheel drive.

The 2022 CT4-V Blackwing comes with enhanced suspension components and specially-developed tires ready to take on the racetrack. Despite the racing-friendly aspects of the car, it’s rated at 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, making it suitable to be used daily as well as just as a track toy.

The Blackwing has the same interior layout and cargo space as the regular CT4-V. Something a little disappointing, though, is that save for the Blackwing’s carbon-fiber trim, microsuede accents, and more supportive front seats, its design and layout are identical to its toned-down siblings.

There are plenty of eye-catching colors to choose from, with one of my favorites being the electric blue. In my opinion, you need to get the black or bronze wheels to really bring out the aggressive look of the car, which is an $800 or $1,500 upcharge respectively. Another one of my favorite add-ons to the car is the performance steering wheel, which features two quick-access buttons: one for selecting V-Mode and one for selecting Performance Traction Management modes.

If the CT4-V were to stand alone, it would be great; however, there is always competition. For the price, this car is great, and you get similar performance as a BMW M3 for $11,000 cheaper if you have no add ons to either model. The only feature that Cadillac could improve is the interior, as the quality falls short of its rivals. But, despite this, the car is still considered quick and visually appealing, and it is comfortable on both the road and on the track.
