Rating the Most Popular Oscar Outfits

News Reviews

Disclaimer: the ratings have nothing to do with the people themselves.

The Oscars are well known for their distinctive and unique outfits; however, are the outfits approved by me?

To start off, it would be a sin to not talk about Will and Jada Smith’s outfits. Jada Pinkett Smith, emerald green is your color. However, with a net worth that high, I would hope you can afford a steamer for that crinkled-up napkin you call a trail. Will Smith is many things, but he is not a weak actor. However, the only thing weaker than his slap was his suit. I mean, a few stitches and personal touches don’t take away from the fact that his suit was basic – unlike his marriage (I’m sorry).

To segue off of Will Smith’s untasteful fashion, we move on to the man of the hour: Chris Rock. The blazer was unique but not flashy; velvet is an outdated fabric but it did look beautiful on the stage. The bowtie, however, was where the problem lay—it was disproportionately small, just like his insults.

Someone who killed it on the carpet was Lupita Nyong’o. The gorgeous gold Prada dress was relatable, modest, and classy for the event. Usually, the large gold sequins would throw off the elegant silhouette of the dress; however, the shape of the dress was just so spectacular that it did not make the sequins look tacky at all. The gold fringe on the bottom was very methodically placed, starting at the waist and carrying down to the bottom of the dress, making them appear unique. That dress was truly made for Lupita, and it really showed.

Moving on from the spectacular outfits, we discuss yet another awful look, certainly one of the more controversial dresses of the Oscars. Everyone knows that “The Devil Wears Prada”;  even he understands it’s better than Chanel. (Get it…because of the movie). Zoe Kravitz’s baby pink Chanel dress would be perfect for a wedding if the theme was a gender reveal. But, the color was not even the worst thing about this dress; the outrageous sweetheart neckline and hideous bow did it for me. I have said it before, and I will say it again: with a net worth that high, please buy a steamer. That’s just one of the things that makes this dress abysmal. I hope this was a last-minute dress because it was certainly not made for Zoe Kravitz. The waistline completely threw me off, and don’t even get me started on the hair.

All in all, the Academy Awards are a beautiful tradition, even if the outfits are controversial. The outfits are a great source of entertainment and even better for the KO News to review them. I can’t wait to see what next year’s looks will have in store!
