Harry’s House: The Album of the Summer

Reviews

On May 20, 2022, Harry Styles released his newest album, titled “Harry’s House.” The former member of One Direction has become a household name since becoming a solo artist in 2016. Over the course of five years, Styles has produced three albums, becoming famous for his unique style and incredible talent.

Immediately following its release, “Harry’s House” spent two weeks atop the Billboard 200 Albums chart, making it the first album to reach the top of the chart in the week it was released since Adele’s “30.” In addition, all 13 songs on the album were featured in the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot 100 list, with “As It Was” holding the No. 1 spot.

The calm nature of the album makes it enjoyable to listen to on any occasion.  If you’re looking for an upbeat song, “Music For a Sushi Restaurant” and “Late Night Talking” are for you.  However, Styles also includes songs such as “Matilda,” and “Love of My Life,” for times when you want to listen to something slow and relaxing.

Because of the soft pace of the songs, it is my favorite of his three albums. The personal lyrics and storylines create a unique listening experience that isn’t present in much of his previous work. Harry Styles’ debut album features songs such as “Sign of the Times” and “Kiwi,” which contain elements of both rock and pop.  His other album, “Fine Line” is a pop album that contains songs such as “Lights Up” and “Watermelon Sugar.”

Vulture describes Harry’s House in a positive light, “Harry’s House is your quintessential spring release, a batch of bubbly, funk-inflected jams celebrating the bodily and emotional pleasures that new romance entails, an account of party nights and delicious eats and late-night heart-to-hearts.”

Although people of all ages enjoy Styles’ music, the lyrics of this album are catered specifically to his main audience: teenage girls. In a popular song from the album, “Boyfriends,” Harry sings about toxic relationships with boyfriends: “They think you’re so easy/they take you for granted.” The specific lyric, along with many others from the album allows listeners to relate and make personal connections to his music.

Harry Styles also makes subtle references to political topics in songs such as “Keep Driving” and “As it Was.”  However, he camouflages the heavy themes with the light tone of the music that matches the rest of the album. Styles includes lyrics about American riots and then quickly goes back to singing about pancakes and clouds.

After the release of his third album, Styles went on a worldwide tour.  The setlist mainly featured songs from his newest album; however, he performed some older songs, including some from One Direction. Styles never fails to keep up with his reputation as an amazing performer and vocalist, allowing him to sell out arenas such as Madison Square Garden. Adorned in multicolor jumpsuits, Styles once again proved his musical talent and put on an incredible show.

Styles’ music ability is once again highlighted in his third hit album, Harry’s House.  With a song for every mood, this album was the soundtrack of the summer.
