KO embraces a new member of the Middle School

Features

Kingswood Oxford is overjoyed to welcome new Middle School math teacher Nicole Chantharasouk into the community. Ms. Chantharasouk may be a new teacher this year, but she is no stranger to Kingswood Oxford. Her cousin, Dan Raymond ’22, is the one who actually suggested Ms. Chantharsouk to apply for a teaching position here.

Ms. Chantharasouk completed her studies at the University of Connecticut, where she got her Bachelor’s degree in math, as well as a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction for education (primarily for secondary math). For the past six years Ms. Chantharasouk has been teaching math at the middle school level and is excited to continue.

Ms. Chantharasouk always knew that she wanted to be either a teacher or a vet. Even though she loves animals, she realized that “the whole blood thing” was not for her. She decided that teaching was the way to go. “I have always loved being a teacher,” she said. “I was always passionate about it, and I just always loved teaching kids.” Someone who really inspired Ms. Chantharasouk to become a math teacher was her former teacher.

At KO, Ms. Chantharasouk teaches Upper Prep and Form 1, advises, and coaches Middle School cross country. She is also looking forward to coaching the swim team later this year.

Words that Ms. Chantharasouk thinks her students would describe her with are: fun, organized, and compassionate. Ms. Chantharasouk makes sure that her curriculum is as student-centered as possible. “When it comes to my teaching style,” she said, “since I am a math teacher I like things to be more structured and organized, but at the same time fun and engaging.” Ms. Chantharasouk emphasizes the importance of getting students involved in the classroom. “As long as I can get students involved in some way, then I know I did something right,” she said.

As a mom and proud dog owner. Ms. Chantharasouk is also very involved at home and loves to do things as a family. In her spare time, she loves to pick up a good book or go on a walk. When possible, Ms. Chantharasouk loves to travel wherever she can.

Ms. Chantharasouk is excited about this new change and is ecstatic to be embraced into KO’s community. She is eager for a number of things, including getting to know everyone and getting a better understanding of KO. We look forward to all of the great things that Ms. Chantharasouk will accomplish at KO, and thank you Dan for introducing Ms. Chantharasouk to the community!
