Senior Sunrise a Success

At 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, the senior class gathered on the turf field to watch the sunrise. Many came early in the morning to try and watch the actual sunrise, but others came later to socialize with their friends.

This senior sunrise event was a fun way for seniors to begin the year. The event was inspired by other schools who also host this event. It is KO’s first year of doing this event, and it definitely won’t be the last. Seniors Keira Sullivan and Jacob Joseph were the main people to organize this event, along with Form 6 Dean Ronald Garcia and the parent association.

Since this was the first time KO hosted a senior sunrise, there was a lot of planning and readjusting. “It was a little hard, obviously, since we were trying to start a new tradition and getting it established,” Keira said. “One of the big things for next year would be finding a place to actually watch the sunrise and since where our campus is, that would probably have to be off-campus.” Originally, the event was scheduled to be on the senior green, but it was almost impossible to see the sunrise from there, which is why it was held on the turf.

The Parent Association generously helped organize the breakfast after the senior sunrise, which was right outside Alumni Hall. They brought the food and helped set up as well. “It was a great time to hang out with friends, listen to music, and then all eat breakfast together,” Keira said.

“The senior sunrise was so much fun,” senior Alice McClure said. “It was a really nice bonding experience for our whole grade and I cannot wait for the senior sunrise at the end of the year.” At the very end of the school year there will be a senior sunset as a celebration for the end of senior year. The senior sunrise and senior sunset in the future, will become great ways for all the seniors to come together and celebrate the beginning and end of the school year in a fun way.
