Boys Varsity Squash is Excited for another Great Season

After winning the New England Class C championship last season, the boys varsity squash team is looking forward to another successful season. With nine seniors graduating and only two returning players, the team looks a little different this year.

Despite this, there is still plenty of talent, and everyone on the team is looking forward to playing with one another. “I am really excited to come together as a team and do our best to win,” sophomore Moh Palanki said. Senior Captain William Jacobs feels the same as Palanki. “I am also looking forward to having fun and just getting better at the game together,” he said.

In order to improve their game, during practices there are a couple areas that the team expects to work on. They will focus on working on consistency of play, positioning on the court, perfecting different shots, and game strategizing.

Along with technical work, Jacobs hopes to improve and help the team other ways. “As a captain, I hope to help the team through the season by being as approachable and on top of things as possible,” he said. “Especially with our very tricky and confusing practice schedule, as well as our practices and matches themselves, I hope to be of as much help to my teammates and coach as possible this season.”

Looking at the game schedule ahead, the team is facing some tough competition. Avon Old Farms, Loomis Chaffee, and Suffield Academy have been some of the biggest competitors in past years. “I know they are going to be tough to beat, but we are going to try our best,” Palanki said.

Along with playing against those teams and others, boys varsity will also compete in the USA squash High School National Championships. This will provide a good opportunity for the team to compete against a wide variety of other high school squash teams. “Nationals is something I’m looking forward to,” Jacobs said. “It would be my first high level tournament, so it will be very cool to be there and meet new people.”

The team will play their next match against Williston Northampton away on Saturday, Dec. 10, and when we return from the winter break, squash will face off against Suffield Academy on Saturday, Jan. 7.
