Fashionista of the Month: Keira Sullivan

When choosing a style that you enjoy wearing, it is always important to explore all of your options before confining yourself to one style. Senior Keira Sullivan has found great joy in doing this by exploring more vintage clothing options, along with stepping out of her comfort zone to find some bright and fun staple pieces.

Although the weather does play a large role in your outfit choices for the day, Keira finds that when she is set on an outfit, all other competing factors don’t matter as much. “I enjoy wearing outfits that make me feel good,” she said. She also finds great joy when the outfit comes together just as she had hoped it would when piecing it together in her mind.

During the school week, Keira finds that she dresses on the more casual side. When it comes to presentations or other important events though, she prefers to dress nicer as she believes “when you look good, you feel good.” Even if you just need a confidence boost, putting on an outfit that truly makes you feel good about yourself or that you really enjoy could be all the reassurance that you need.

Keira likes to use a variety of colors in her outfits, but one that she finds the most flattering and versatile would be black. “I love a monochromatic outfit with a small pop of color, whether that be your shoes or a jacket,” she said.

Another core piece in her style would be denim because of how easily it can be styled in a variety of ways. “I’m very happy that our new dress code allows blue jeans since they are definitely in a lot of my outfits,” she exclaimed.

With vintage clothing, you are given so much creative liberty as you get to style a piece completely different from how it may have been worn before. Some staple vintage pieces that Keira incorporates into her wardrobe are a long purple fur coat she found in a vintage store, along with a pair of camo pants that her grandfather wore while serving in Vietnam.

Aside from vintage clothing, Keira likes to shop at Free People, Nordstrom, and Anthropologie. “With these stores being on the pricier side, I always go straight to the sales rack and usually find such cute stuff there,” she said.

One piece of advice that Keira would give when it comes to choosing your outfits is to wear something that makes you feel good about yourself. “Try to learn what your style is, but don’t feel pressured to stick to it all the time,” she said. She hopes that people will explore new types of clothing since until you try it, you’ll never know what you like.
