On Thursday, Feb. 16 at 8:30 a.m. the junior class gathered in the dining hall before school for the Form 5 Prom Invitation breakfast, an annual event held in the weeks before prom.
Form Five Dean David Hild and the junior prom parent committee worked hard to organize this event and ensure it was a fun celebration for the students.
This year, the junior prom will be held on Saturday, April 1, and the theme is “A Red Carpet Affair.” For the invitation breakfast, the parent committee appropriately decorated the dining hall with red and black balloons to match the theme. Additionally, students were given chocolate candy bars in a Hollywood-themed wrapper along with their formal prom invitations.
The parents brought in a variety of delicious foods including donuts, muffins, fruit, bagels, and juices for the students to enjoy while they socialized with their friends.
An unexpected challenge in planning the event was the new safety protocols on campus in response to the norovirus outbreak. Instead of having students grab their own food, parents served it to students in a buffet-style fashion. “It was a little tougher because it was the first week that we had new protocols due to the norovirus, but the parents rolled with the punches and made it work,” Mr. Hild said.
The students appreciated the time and work put in by the parent committee toward making the event a success. “It was amazing to see all the parents who put in so much time and effort into an event that we have been looking forward to since freshman year,” junior Anna Tippner said.
Many juniors were excited to receive their paper invitations. “I was really looking forward to receiving my invitation to prom, and I thought the decorations were super creative,” junior Avery Hersh said.
Junior Aashni Patel agreed, adding that the breakfast was a great way to kick off the excitement leading up to prom. “The invitation breakfast was a great way to get the grade excited about what’s to come,” she said. “We ate some delicious food accompanied by our prom invitations. With prom nearby, the year seems to be flying and I couldn’t be more happy.”
The breakfast certainly served as a special opportunity for juniors to formally receive their invitations and spend time with their peers in the upcoming weeks before prom.
