Player of the Moment: Chuck Hare

Sports

Versatile, athletic, and hard-working are just some of the words used to describe KO senior center Chuck Hare as he heads into the 2023-24 varsity boys basketball season.

As the season commences with a scrimmage against Watkinson, big things are expected for Hare, the Holy Cross Men’s Basketball commit. Sophomore guard Tyler Brown referred to Hare as one of their key players. “Chuck is a dominant player in the post and has also developed a shot that will make defenders have to guard him on the perimeter.”

Hare looks forward to being a top-scoring option on this year’s team. “I enjoy having that pressure,” Hare said. “It only makes me work harder to accomplish my goals.” In Hare’’s first year at KO, he was very impressive; however, in his senior year, he looks to break out and really dominate inside the paint. After losing star forward Gavin Griffiths, the team is looking for someone to fill the shoes of the top scorer on the team, and Hare is fit for just that.

Hare has set goals for this upcoming season. “I want to put on 20 pounds this season and continue to be dominant in the post this season,” Hare said. “I also want to become a better three-point shooter as well so that I have to be feared as a shooting and post threat.”

When focusing on the team, Hare has lots of praise for his teammates and believes they have the opportunity to make a lot of noise in Founders and in Class B. “We have a talented roster,” Hare said. “This team has what it takes to win a Founders League or a NEPSAC Class B championship. We just have to keep putting in effort and also work hard.”

Head Coach Brad Seaman looks forward to seeing Hare’s success this season. “Chuck is a senior who has the chance to be dominant for us this season,” he said. “Chuck will play a major role in the team’s success this season.”

When looking ahead at the schedule, Hare believes that the team has some unfinished business from last year. KO suffered brutal losses that came down to the wire against Choate and Loomis last year, and Hare looks forward to avenging these losses in Hewett this season. “I definitely look forward to our games against Loomis and Choate,” Hare said. “These games mean a lot to us, and these games will prove why we can hang with class A teams.”

If you can, come out and support the KO boys varsity basketball team this season, and make sure to watch out for number 33. He will most definitely be making an impact on offense and defense.
