Artist of the Month: Link Lee

Arts

To say KO has a long list of talented artists would be an understatement. Art is so important to the KO community that we write a whole article each month in celebration of just one. This January our artist of the month is a talented KO senior, Link Lee.

Link has been making art her entire life even before coming to KO. “I’ve been drawing since I was little,” Link said. “But I mean, if you take it seriously, it’s actually been my whole life.”

While Link is not inspired by one particular artist, she is inspired by the world of art around her. “On Instagram, I like to look at other artists, online polls, and digital art,” Link said.

One of the main formats Link uses to create her art is in the digital world. “I use my iPad,” Link pointed out. “There’s an app I use called Procreate. Sometimes I use the computer at school and we use Studio Paint.” Link not only does digital art but many other styles as well. “There’s three things that I love to do,” Link shared, “and those are painting, sketching, and just digital art.”

Link also takes classes at KO to hone her artistic skills. “This year, I took advanced studio art and painting,” she said. “But I also take studio art after school during the winter and spring season.”

Link believes that art is very important to helping a community. “I talked to [art teacher] Ms. [Katie] Burnett before and she told me that art is like problem solving,” Link said. “Sometimes when you have some problems in making your art, you have to actually think, ‘What should I put, what do I have to do to make this work?’ But I think art is also very essential. Imagine a world without art. There would be zero creativity. It would be very boring, right?”

Link has also helped form a community at KO through her art, and by helping others create art. “I love to see people actually enjoying my art and many people actually come up to me and ask if I can teach them digital art,” Link said. “And I was very happy to do so in advanced studio art. I actually helped one of our classmates work on digital art a bit. And I feel like many of us didn’t know about digital art that much, so I’m very happy to let them know what it’s like.”

While Link does not plan to pursue art as her future career she still plans to keep making art. “I’ll just keep making art during my free time,” Link stated. “It’ll be my hobby.” Link Lee is quite the artist, and we can’t wait to see what she will create in the future!
