A passionate history teacher, Theresa Oberst has recently taken over the teaching position of Upper School history teacher Steph Sperber’s AP U.S. History class. Ms. Oberst will be filling in for Ms. Sperber while she is on maternity leave for part of the second semester.
Ms. Oberst brings a repertoire of diverse teaching experiences to our community. She grew up in Rochester, N.Y. and attended Assumption University, followed by Trinity College in Hartford. She began teaching history at Conard High School in West Hartford, then moved to Boston where she taught at a Catholic school, and then The Rivers School in Weston, Mass.
Ms. Oberst has taught U.S. History for five years and has so far loved teaching at KO this semester. “All the juniors in this class are wonderful,” she said. “They are friendly and prepared and do an excellent job engaging in class.”
After having a baby, Ms. Oberst moved to West Hartford with her husband, who grew up in town and introduced her to KO. “The private school community is definitely my vibe,” she explained. “I love the class sizes here and the special connections each student has with their teacher.” Ms. Oberst knew of Kingswood Oxford’s excellent reputation from her husband and was thrilled to be welcomed into the community. “My class at KO is really fun, and teaching here is a highlight of my day,” she said.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Oberst is a nature lover who enjoys hiking and traveling. She is excited about this upcoming spring semester and making new connections within the KO community!
