Super Bowl Halftime Show

Reviews

Being one of the biggest events of the year, the Super Bowl Halftime Show is something both football and non-football fans look forward to during the event. The 2024 Halftime Show was performed by Usher, a famous pop and R&B musician, who has hits such as “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” and “Yeah!”

On Sunday evening in Las Vegas, Usher was in a sleeveless top, a cropped piece which he eventually shed to reveal a plain tank top and soon after, no top at all. This was not at all unexpected as before the show started, Apple Music gave a warning by flashing a message on the screen, stating that the show may cause “singing, dancing, sweating, gyrating, and possible relationship issues.”

Usher was drenched in sweat just a couple of minutes into the show, which started with his hit single “Caught Up” from his 2004 album, “Confessions.” He followed the song up with two invigorating tracks, “You Don’t Have to Call” and “Love in this Club.” Additionally, there were a huge number of performers on the football field, including a marching band, chorus girls, and even people on stilts. The scene was almost a little too overwhelming, taking away the focus from the main star’s vocals and dances.

After these songs, the focus shifted to a more music-intensive part of the show. Usher introduced Alicia Keys, wearing a blood-red dress and sitting next to a matching red piano. She sang her hit song “If I Ain’t Got You” in perfect harmony with Usher who reappeared in a Dolce & Gabbana blazer. They then transitioned into their duet, “My Boo.”

Next up was a tribute to the 20th anniversary of Usher’s hit album, “Confessions,” with his producer coming on stage to perform with him. But the tribute was fast, and Usher followed by dazzling in his solo, “U Got It Bad” while captivating the audience with his electrifying performance. He also shared the stage with artists like H.E.R. and Will.i.am, transitioning from a soulful solo to high-energy EDM music. Decking out in a striking off-white motorcycle ensemble, Usher impressively sang and danced on rollerskates. The highlight of the show for me was definitely when Lil Jon joined Usher for a rendition of “Turn Down For What” followed by a performance of “Yeah!” featuring Ludacris and a bunch of talented dancers. The Halftime Show ended on a high note, leaving the audience craving for more.

This show definitely made me interested in Usher as a performer, and many others would agree, since the show averaged a whopping 129.3 million views, breaking numerous records.
