Senior Farewell – Audrey Karasik

Features

Senior Audrey Karasik has been an influential member of the KO News, writing strong investigative articles and overall contributing positively to the paper.

Audrey joined the KO News her sophomore year and wrote as an associate news editor in her freshman and sophomore years. “Come junior year, I was worried about juggling my studies with everything else, so I took a year off before coming back to the KO News as the investigative editor for my senior year,” Audrey explained.

During her time on the paper, Audrey has thoroughly enjoyed being able to collaborate with her peers. “It was so fun to collaborate with a team full of really hardworking and talented people who were all passionate about what they were doing,” she said. As an investigative editor, Audrey enjoyed being able to learn more about KO through a different lens, even after being here for so many years.

A news article that helped develop Audrey’s love and passion for investigative journalism was her article about stolen catalytic converters, which she wrote as an associate news editor. Audrey also loved writing an investigative story this year about the library. “I really felt the investigative spirit while researching that one and learned a lot of new information about the history and future of our school’s library, which was fascinating!” she commented.

From her time on the News, Audrey will take away many valuable lessons. One important aspect of writing strong articles is being able to conduct good interviews and research. “I remember Mrs. Schieffelin talked to us about the importance of a good interview in my journalism class freshman year as we were preparing to write our first articles,” she said. “At the beginning, it definitely was nerve-racking, a little awkward, and I stuck very closely to the script I had prepared beforehand. Over these past four years, however, I have grown so much.” Overall, Audrey thanks the KO News for the strong collaborative and communication skills this experience taught her.

The KO News will miss Audrey greatly next year, but we look forward to seeing all that she accomplishes!
