The KO News is incredibly grateful to have had Ava Cashman on our staff for the past three years. Throughout this time, Ava has been an essential member, sharing her passion, commitment, and leadership skills with the community.
She especially values the meaningful connections she has made with both students and faculty. “My favorite part of being a member on the KO News has been working with and getting to know so many different people in the community,” Ava explains. “Interviewing and getting to hear everyones stories has truly been an unforgettable experience.”
Ava has been involved in numerous positions on the KO News staff, including Associate Features Editor as a sophomore, Head Features Editor as a junior, and finally Managing Editor for Features and Arts in her senior year. Being involved in these roles has allowed her to learn strong communication skills, writing proficiency, and the importance of time management.
One important aspect of the KO News for Ava has been working with Ms. Schieffelin. “Ms. Schieffelin is a role model and inspired me to join the KO News after taking journalism,” she said. “She is a wealth of information and supportive in all areas when it comes to writing and investigative interviewing.” Ava encourages anyone considering taking Journalism to try it. “It has been an amazingly enriching experience for me,” she said.
Reflecting on her time as part of the staff, Ava has learned the art of listening and communicating. “Being on the KO News has taught me to be a better listener, and I have learned to be a better communicator. I have gotten to know a lot of people on campus that I wouldn’t have otherwise through the News.”
Ava’s devotion to writing and editing consequential articles for the KO News has made a significant contribution to the paper over the years. She exemplifies true qualities of a leader and is a positive role model to many on the staff. We know she will continue to do amazing things in her future and wish her all the best.
