t 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, Kingswood Oxford Upper School students arrived in their best dresses and suits to dance the night away at the annual homecoming event. The theme “Under the Stars” was brought to life by the glitzy, glamorous, star-themed decorations, creating the perfect atmosphere for a magical night.
This year’s homecoming was slightly different and more complicated to plan because the space outside Alumni Hall, which has traditionally been used for the dance, was unavailable due to the construction. The Student Government decided that the Middle School courtyard would be a good alternative space for the dance.
“With the construction of the Community Commons building, it made it more challenging, but we did the best we could under the circumstances,” Form Six President Jenna Kanaan said. “While the space was smaller, we tried to make up for it with fun decorations, like decorating the tree in the middle of the courtyard with lights to make the space even better.” SGA achieved their vision, with many star-themed decorations, balloons, and cool lights creating a dazzling starry night.
A highlight of the night was the photo booth, which gave students the opportunity to take fun pictures behind a red carpet with a Hollywood-themed backdrop. There were also props, like glasses and hats that students could use to enhance their pictures.
“I thought it was really nice that there was a specific space where everyone could take pictures with their friends,” Form Six Senator Clara Drag said. “The props and the backdrops were enjoyable additions and made the pictures even better. This was something that the Student Government really prioritized, as we thought it would make homecoming even better, and we hadn’t had this photo booth previously.”
Of course, you can’t have a dance without music, so KO hired a DJ who played songs that kept the energy high and had everyone on the dance floor. He played popular songs like “FE!N” by Travis Scott and “Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee, but also classics like “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. The variety of songs evoked a mix of excitement and nostalgia, setting the rhythm for a fun and energetic night.
Snacks and drinks provided by SGA kept everyone energized for the whole night. Excitement filled the courtyard as students captured memories in the photo booth and danced with their friends. “The Under the Stars” theme and lively atmosphere made Homecoming 2024 a memorable night for everyone.
