As the KO girls swim and dive team enters a critical part of their season, they will continue to rely on their senior leaders, one of whom is senior Co-captain Miya Scranton.
Scranton’s coaches and teammates constantly praise her hard work, whether they notice it from up close or from afar. When junior swimmer Samit Virmani was asked about who he views as leaders of the girls team, he was quick to mention Scranton. “She is hardworking and devoted to making everyone around her better,” he said. Scranton’s coaches also share a deep admiration for her hard work. “She is always giving it her all,” head coach Kata Baker said. “She really is an excellent example for this team.”
Scranton is vital to the team’s success, as she constantly brings a good attitude and lots of energy. She is also hard-working and will compete no matter the situation. She builds a lot of her skill from her dedication and competitiveness in the pool. “I’m an extremely competitive person, and I feel like swimming has really helped me put all of my energy towards one thing,” Scranton said. “I constantly aim to work as hard as I can.” Her hard work is noticed by her teammates and is also reflected in her times in the water.
Scranton’s main stroke is breaststroke, and she competes in the 100-meter breaststroke individual race. She also swims the 50-meter breaststroke in the 200 medley relay. Scranton is a very flexible swimmer; however, and does participate in various races depending on the meet and will sometimes compete in the 200 IM and the freestyle sprints.
As Scranton looks at her final weeks of her swimming career at KO, she has a few personal goals for herself. “I think my main goal is ending on a high note at the New England Championships,” Scranton said. “Being proud of the results at the end of the meet is very important to me.”
Scranton noted that her favorite memory of the season so far has been the swim KITs. When asked about the event, she highlighted the team brunch prior to it and noted that it was a great bonding experience for the team. She really enjoyed being a leader of the team during this year’s KITs and loved leading KO’s team as they hosted a large meet this year.
Scranton’s hard work has definitely paid off as she is now a captain and a vital swimmer on this year’s swim and dive team. Her coaches and teammates constantly praise her abilities and love being around her, as she is a great teammate and athlete. We look forward to seeing how the rest of her season unfolds!
