The KO News is bittersweet to see senior opinions writer Ethan Stec graduate, as he’s played a key role in supplying opinion pieces over the past four years.
Joining as a freshman, Ethan said he was excited to explore the field of journalism as a creative outlet. “[The News] allowed me to really channel my love for English and history with the sciences and STEM,” Ethan said.
Ethan’s strong commitment to writing monthly articles over the years eventually led to his own column in the newspaper. As he explained, this has given him the opportunity to write articles about quite literally anything he finds interest in, most notably on the topics of accessible education and health care. Ethan’s favorite article was his opinion piece on Senator John Veils, with whom he shares a lot of similar viewpoints. “[Velis’] views are very people oriented, and I learned a lot about how he’s a [great] leader,” he said.
Over the years, Ethan said he has created numerous memories with the KO News and advises underclassmen to join in and get involved as well. Ethan appreciates the lessons he’s learned along the way, such as the importance of time management, awareness of others’ opinions on sensitive topics, and writing about what truly matters to him.
Ethan said he plans on writing in college as he continues to see it as a great opportunity to spread awareness while also putting himself out there and meeting new people. The KO News will miss Ethan, and we wish him the best of luck in his future!
