Senior Sasha Dausey has been an essential part of the KO News for the past three years. Joining her sophomore year, Sasha consistently brought her positive attitude and love for writing, love for sharing the news, and passion to ask the bigger, more meaningful questions.
During her time on the KO News, Sasha served as Associate News Editor, Head Editor for News, and most recently Managing Editor for News, Sports, and Investigative.
Bringing information to the Kingswood Oxford community in the most honest form was something that drew Sasha to write for the news department. “I think it’s the most direct form of media that I consume,” she said. “And so it was really interesting to get behind the driver’s seat for a bit and think about putting information out for other people.”
While Sasha has held many positions in the KO News, continually in the news realm, her favorite position was Managing Editor, which she held this year. “I really liked my position this year,” she said. “It was at times very stressful and at times, there was always that one week where all of the editing had to get done [..] at the end of the month, seeing that paper come out with not just my own articles that I wrote, but seeing the editorial and the InDesign pages all come together was really gratifying to sort of been a big role in that.”
In addition to enjoying the process of seeing the KO News come together, Sasha also enjoyed writing articles. One of her favorites was her first published article, which she wrote in journalism her freshman year: “Schedule Change Long Overdue.” “That was a really fun article to write because it was sort of newsy, but it was also investigative,” she said. “It sort of dabbled in talking to people and figuring out things that are going on, and I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m here to ask people and have conversations about new and exciting things.”
Sasha, lastly, loved connecting and learning about and with the KO community. She wrote her first article about the Form Three trip to Camp Merriwood, which involved interviewing former English teacher David Hild, along with informing the community about this new trip. “I was super excited to figure out: what are the activities?” she said. “What do they do? Is it a learning thing? Is it a fun thing? I talked to Mr. Hild, who I’d never talked to before […] it was just a really great experience in interviews and I got so much good informatio,n and it was just neat to learn about something that people were doing in the community.”
We will miss Sasha next year here at the KO News! We are so excited to see what she does in the future and wish her good luck at the University of Rochester, where she’ll be studying biology in the fall!
