Artist of the Month: Lex Green

Arts

Senior Lex Green had never taken an art class before he came to Kingswood Oxford. “ When I was younger in my free time I would spend time drawing,” he explained. “I never really got into it for school until I got to KO. Actually I never had an art class before coming here.”

His first art class taken at KO was Sculpting One with Upper School art teacher Scott McDonald. While Lex does not proclaim to be a sculptor, he still enjoyed himself. “ I do not sculpt, but I made a little Danny DeVito, that was funny,” he remarked. Instead of clay, Lex’s preferred medium is graphite, although recently he has been painting a lot. Currently, he has a painting of a chameleon in the art gallery in Roberts.

When it comes to what inspires Lex, it’s complicated. “ I don’t just look at outside things,” he said. “It’s more of how I’m feeling at the moment. I’ve drawn some weird stuff that I haven’t published.” These out-of-the-box art pieces vary for Lex. “ I drew a praying mantis with my head on it, that one’s weird,” he reflected. “I also drew Drake May holding a baby Josh Allen.”

Right now, Lex is working on a painting collage of singers from the nineties, including singers like Kurt Cobain and Chris Cornell, pushing his skillset. “ I’ve only gotten the shapes figured out on it,” he said. “But this one’s gonna be different. I’ve never painted people before. But it’s actually going pretty well.” He is hoping this piece will make its way to the gallery once finished.

While Lex does not have plans to pursue an art degree in college, he plans to continue creating art in his free time. Through this, he also hopes to continue to grow his skills and teach himself something new.

We can’t wait to see what else Lex creates this year. Make sure to stop by the gallery to check out some of Lex’s art!
