KO offers huge congratulations to junior Zil Desai for winning the 2025 Miss Bharat Connecticut in the teen category on Sept. 21, 2025. Her hard work, talent, and dedication will not go unnoticed and have certainly paid off!
The Miss Bharat Pageant is a regional beauty pageant that takes place throughout multiple states in the country and has a mission to allow participants to escape the stress of life and build confidence in themselves by partaking in creative, fun, and innovative events and competitions. The Miss Bharat Pageant is also a foundation for enhancing and celebrating the heritage of Indian and East Asian culture.
The pageant that Zil participated in was presented by My Moda Glam and had a variety of age categories, ranging from young kids to older women. The pageant also included other categories such as a couples category and a Mr.’s category, displaying the diversity and variety within the organization.
Zil was able to claim first place in the teens category. There were multiple rounds of the pageant that Zil competed in. The first round was the talent round, where Zil performed a dance that she had been learning five weeks prior to the competition. The next round was traditional wear, where the contestants were judged on their walk around the stage, and the final round was evening gown, where the judges asked contestants questions. The judging was based on many different factors of the competition, such as talent, performance, and overall confidence on stage. “They stress that the most important things were your walk with confidence and your question and answer,” Zil said.
The way that the scores were announced was different because the judges started by announcing last place and building up to first place. Zil and another girl were the last ones standing on the stage, and they were crowned co-winners of the Miss Bharat Connecticut Teen Division. Zil could feel the excitement and nerves building up in her. “I was also nervous because I knew this is when they’re videoing,” Zil said. “This is when all the photos are going to be taken.”
Overall, competing in this pageant was a great experience for Zil. She was able to foster strong connections with other contestants and make new friends. “My favorite part about the competition was just being behind the scenes and meeting the girls and talking to them, because we were all so stressed out and nervous, so it was kind of like a shared experience,” Zil said. “I think that made it really special.”
Zil also felt as if she was able to present herself with more confidence every day, and the experience greatly improved her public speaking skills. “It was just like such a big opportunity,” Zil reflected. “I’m really grateful for it.”
The Miss Bharat Connecticut Pageant was the first-ever pageant that Zil has competed in, which just underscores her victory even more. For other people interested in competing in pageants, Zil notes that it is an incredible opportunity and really helps people find themselves.
Just as impressive as her win is her respectable attitude towards winning and her belief that learning from a memorable experience shapes you more than the win. “It’s more about the experience, and being able to say I did this and meeting new people,” Zil said. “It’s not about winning.”
This win was an incredible gain for Zil, and KO hopes to recognize her and the Miss Bharat competition for its empowerment, inclusivity, cultural representation, and positivity it has brought to Connecticut. Congratulations to Zil, and thank you for sharing your experience with us!
