Fun Facts from the Middle School “History of KO” class 

Features

Taught by Spanish teacher Duncan Insuik and Spanish teacher Tricia Crowley, the class consisted of sixth-graders Violet Ahles, Eli Balanda, Julia Balanda, Winston Chen, Madeleine Dougherty, Nico Durao, Ruby Ginsberg, Carter Goodhue, Aaron Lin, Andrew Malinowski, Nora McDonald, Tommy Shaffer, Louisa Stutz, Colin Tran, Nyla Webb, and Addie Wenzel. 

Sports:

  • Kingswood used to have riflery, fencing, and skiing teams.
  • Post-season team dinners have been a tradition since the start of the sports program.

Merging of KO

  • The Oxford campus became the campus of the Middle School when the schools merged in 1969. 
  • The boys would sometimes have lessons at the Mark Twain house instead of on the Kingswood campus.

Dress Code

  • Boys often had to wear a sports jacket (similar to a Letterman jacket).
  • Oxford dress code was much stricter than now: a grey flannel blazer with an Oxford emblem patch, a matching skirt, white blouse with a round collar, a circle pin at the collar, a belt, with a choice of a sweater, knee-high socks, and saddle shoes.

Alumni Hall:

  • Alumni Hall used to be used as a cafeteria and apartments for teachers.
  • There used to be frequent concerts in Alumni Hall.
