For freshman catcher Lilly Evans, softball has never just been a sport; it’s been a lifelong commitment. “I’ve been playing softball since I was 5 years old, so it’s really been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Evans said. What started as learning the basics and having fun quickly grew into something more serious as her dedication and passion for the game intensified over time.
As the competition has increased, so has Evans’ approach. “I’ve put a lot more time into training, practicing, and understanding the mental side of it, too,” Evans said. “Every year I feel like I’ve grown not just as a player, but as a competitor.”
That growth is evident in her performance and national recognition. She leads the team in hits with a .643 batting average and .667 on base percentage. Evans uses that spotlight as motivation. “I know I have a target on my back, and that feeling of working hard and seeing it pay off keeps me going.”
Evans credits much of her success to the environment around her at Kingswood Oxford. “I’m surrounded by teammates who support each other but also push each other to be better every day,” Evans said. “Being a part of a team reminds me that success isn’t just individual, it’s about contributing to something bigger.”
Outside of school, Evans competes with Rhode Island 16U National, one of the top teams in the country. As the youngest player on the roster, she embraces the challenge. “I have to rise to that level every single day,” Evans said. “It’s definitely challenging, but it’s helped me become tougher mentally and more confident in my abilities.”
Her strength, work ethic, competitiveness, and composure under pressure have helped her stand out in the big moments. Still, Evans remains focused on improving. “I’m always trying to improve my consistency and clean up the small details in my game,” Evans said. “At a high level, even small mistakes can make a difference.”
Looking ahead, Evans has clear goals for the season. “I really want to take my game to the next level by becoming a more well-rounded player and keep improving every single game.”
With a 4-1 record, her team is already off to a strong start. But for Evans, the focus goes beyond wins. “The goal isn’t just to win games, but to keep getting better and be playing our best softball when it matters most in the season.”
With her drive, discipline, and passion for the game, it’s not surprising that Lillian Evasn has earned the Player of the Moment honor.
