As the weather begins to get warm again, that can only mean one thing. It’s time to say goodbye to the senior class of the KO News. For senior writer Hadley Hersh, this means new beginnings and experiences, but lessons and advice from her time at KO to bring with her into this new chapter.
During her freshman and sophomore years, Hadley had English teacher William Martino as her advisor, and he encouraged her to take journalism. She listened to his advice and took the class in the fall of her junior year. After an enjoyable semester, Hadley joined the paper in the spring.
Hadley’s biggest takeaway from her time spent on the KO News was the interview process for her articles. “I’ve really enjoyed the interview process,” Hadley said. “It’s taught me to be a little uncomfortable and to reach out to people I don’t really know. It’s helped me build communication skills.”
Hadley enjoys having a voice in both what she writes about and in the planning of articles. “The planning meetings are fun,” Hadley said. “I like the features group and planning out the articles. I get to have some say in what I’m doing, which makes it more fun.”
After writing for the features, arts, and sports sections of the news, Hadley took some time to figure out what she liked best. “Features are probably my favorite,” she said, “but I feel like news and arts aren’t that different.”
The KO News wishes Hadley good luck on her next chapter. We thank her for her commitment to the KO News and for helping wherever she was needed!
