Here’s the scoop: froyo is better than ice cream

Opinion

Imagine this: you are just finishing up your amazing day spent at the beach. You have been tanning for hours and swimming in the ocean under the hot sun. You are on your way home, and you think: “Wow, I can really go for some ice cream right now.” You pull into the nearest ice cream shop, ready to get your usual scoop of chocolate or vanilla. But then, you see it: a frozen yogurt shop right across the street. Suddenly, you start to wonder if ice cream is really the best option. I mean, why settle for one or two flavors when you could create your own combination of unlimited flavors and unlimited toppings? It’s time that people start to give froyo more credit, because it truly is the better dessert.

For starters, froyo gives you way more options. At a froyo shop, you can mix different flavors, add as many toppings as you want, and create a dessert that is completely your own. If you are in the mood for something chocolatey but also in the mood for something fruity, you can have both! My personal favorite is cake batter mixed with cookies and cream. It might not sound like those flavors would match, but everything goes together with froyo.

Then there are the toppings: fresh strawberries, popping boba, cookie dough, brownie bites, gummy bears, chocolate chips, and sprinkles are only just a few of the many possibilities. With normal ice cream, you can usually choose a flavor and maybe add a topping. With froyo, you can combine everything you love into one cup. Why settle for one flavor when you can have as many as you want?

Another reason that froyo is better than ice cream is that it is a refreshing alternative to it, especially on a hot summer day. After hours in the sun, a cold cup of froyo sounds pretty hard to beat. It often feels lighter than traditional ice cream, which is perfect when you want something sweet without feeling overly full afterward. Of course, froyo is not automatically healthier than ice cream, especially when you add half the toppings bar into your cup, but froyo places give you options, which makes it so great and embracing for everyone.

Now I know ice cream fans will argue that nothing beats a classic scoop of ice cream in a cone on a hot summer day. And I get it, ice cream is popular for a reason. However, I think people sometimes stick with ice cream because it is what they’ve always known. Froyo offers the same opportunity to enjoy a cold, sweet treat while giving you more freedom to experiment with different flavors and combinations. It’s time for people to really give it a chance.

At the end of the day, I am not trying to hate on ice cream, because I love ice cream. Conversely, I do think that froyo deserves more attention. Between its variety of flavors, endless topping options, and refreshing tastes, it has everything you could want in a summer dessert.

The next time you are leaving the beach and craving something cold, think twice before heading straight for the ice cream shop. It’s time to switch things up.
