Opinions on sports at KO this year

In the Middle

In the KO Middle School, sports have usually taken place in the middle of the day. This year, since locker rooms are no longer accessible due to COVID-19, sports practices are now at the end of the day.

“I prefer sports at the middle of the day, but it is not that big of a difference,” eighth-grade field hockey player Izzie Mendelovici said, when asked if she prefers sports at the end or the middle of the day.

On the other hand, sixth-grade football player Ashton Binalla said, “I think it is better to have sports after lunch because you can not really play your best when you are hungry.”

Interim Director of Athletics Josh Balabuch agrees that a healthy lunch is a key component to getting the most out of sports practice. “The truly important thing to remember is to be sure you are eating properly to perform at your very best.

Mr. Balabuch also shared his thoughts on the challenges both coaches and students have been facing and overcoming while doing sports in a pandemic. “I think without a doubt it was harder for both the coaches and the students to get used to sports in a COVID-19 world,” he said. “Our coaches all did a great job of adapting and adjusting past practice plans as well as creating new ones in order to fit these guidelines.”

In conclusion, Middle School students and coaches have adjusted well to the new guidelines and restrictions. Opinions differ, on the other hand, about whether it is better to have sports before or after lunch.
