Froyo is the way to go!

Opinion

A cup of Sweet Frog’s frozen yogurt is always there to cool you down on those hot summer days, walking through the Center. When you’re hot and tired after a beach day, or when it’s a cold winter day but you’re still craving a cup, frozen yogurt is always there. Some will try to debate that frozen yogurt is an ice cream ripoff. However, frozen yogurt is clearly a tastier, healthier, better dessert choice.

Frozen yogurt is smooth, light, and fluffy while ice cream is thick and heavy. The density of ice cream causes it to be difficult to eat as it is much heavier, especially on a cone where you are not assisted by a spoon.

Another downside of ice cream is the random chunks of food added to it. For example, pistachio ice cream is perfectly good on its own; however, there will always be random salty pistachios that completely ruin the dessert. Frozen yogurt never has this issue as customers choose their own toppings.

Additionally, frozen yogurt is colder than ice cream as it is frozen at 8 degrees fahrenheit while ice cream is at 22 degrees fahrenheit. This allows frozen yogurt to be more refreshing.

Frozen yogurt also has many health benefits. Although filled with sugar, frozen yogurt is beneficial for your stomach health. The fermentation tactics used in creating frozen yogurt causes it to actually improve gut bacteria, which is important for supplying your body with nutrients and assisting in digestion. Frozen yogurt is also superior to ice cream for those with lactose intolerance as the fermentation process causes there to be less lactose in the final product.

Although frozen yogurt does contain less lactose, it still contains the same amount, or in some cases, even more calcium and protein than ice cream. Some other nutrients that it has are potassium, B6, B12, and more. This allows for good bone health in addition to many other health benefits.

People have been knowingly picking frozen yogurt over ice cream to lower fat intake, as many frozen yogurt shops will advertise that their yogurt is low-in-fat or non-fat. This is because frozen yogurt is made with milk or soy milk while ice cream is made with cream, which has more fat. This also affects the number of calories as one pint of ice cream is found to have more calories than one pint of froyo. Additionally, frozen yogurt’s high levels of protein allow you to be full for longer, which is why it is eaten commonly by those on weight loss journeys.

Those with high cholesterol also may benefit from frozen yogurt as it has been found to help lower LDL. High cholesterol can cause an increase in the risk of heart disease, blood flow issues, and more. On the other hand, ice cream has been shown to increase cholesterol as it is heavy with fat. Frozen yogurt has even been found to have mental health improvements, as several studies have shown that after a few weeks of consistently consuming frozen yogurt, moods improved.

Ice cream, although a classic, cannot compare to the scrumptiousness and myriad health benefits that the obviously superior frozen yogurt has.
