When you approach Playa Bowls, it’s as if you’re stepping into a wave. The aquamarine blue exterior is impossible to miss, creating an invitation to enter the establishment. As you walk inside, it is as if you’re on a Caribbean island, not in West Hartford. When you walk through the door, you are immediately transported into an underwater oasis, vibrant to all of your senses. Pop radio floods your ears as your eyes bounce from one beautiful decoration to the next. Blue palm trees, octopuses, and waves printed on every wall create an illusion that you’re at a beach hut. Neon signs hang along the walls embedded in grass, vintage surfboards hang from the ceilings, and rattan egg chairs dot the room. A giant chalkboard displaying a color-coordinated menu catches your attention hanging next to a display of fresh bananas. There is always a steady flow of people coming in and out. With high and low tables, bar tables, and hanging egg chairs there’s a seat for everyone.
Playa Bowls never fails to impress, as I have never had a bad experience at this establishment. The color-coordinated menu mounted on the wall has so much to offer. There are seven different bases to choose from such as acai, pitaya, and chia. Not only are there bowls, but you can always choose from an assortment of oatmeals and smoothies along with various other drinks in the cooler. Whatever you could possibly be in the mood for, Playa Bowls will have something for you. Do you want something healthy? Playa Bowls has an option for you; even their green bowl is flourishing with flavor. Whatever your heart desires, you can customize your bowl until it’s perfect for you. The options are endless; the sky’s the limit. Granola, coconut, peanut butter, fruit, and Nutella are only a few of the grand selections of toppings.
My favorite bowl is the Nutella Acai bowl or the Lola Green bowl. My taste buds water after every bite. The Nutella Acai bowl is topped with granola, fresh-cut bananas and strawberries, coconut flakes, and a generous amount of Nutella. The Lola Green bowl is topped with granola, fresh, juicy pineapple and mango, coconut flakes, and drizzled with honey. Although these two bowls are topped similarly, they are entirely different. Their bases create a distinction as does the Nutella versus the honey. Their delicious, mouth-watering bowls never fail to dazzle.
In addition to the outstanding food, the service is incredible as well. They are speedy, responsive, and friendly. The staff always has smiles on their faces and are incredibly accommodating. You will never catch a staff member with a bad attitude. Playa Bowls offers online ordering with a feature where you can insert the time you want to pick up, which sets it apart from most businesses. No matter how long the line is or if you order online, they are fast and consistent with their service. The longest I have ever had to wait was seven minutes, which is unbelievable for a business with so many customers. You will never be disappointed by the service at Playa Bowls. I make regular appearances and never once have been disappointed by the experience.
