A Great Open Fore The KO Golf Team

KO’s varsity golf team has come out swinging with a winning 9-1 record so far this season and many more matches to come.

The KO varsity golf team, helmed by Head Coach Michael Wolf, currently practices at Gillette Ridge Golf club in Bloomfield. “Practices usually consist of playing nine holes and practicing our putting and chipping some days,” senior Captain Cody Brew commented.

Most of the players have been doing well during practices, but there are a few standouts. “The major players on our team would be Brew as well as freshman Austin Perkins,” Coach Wolf said.

Results have been evident so far with the team winning two of the three competitions they’ve had so far. “We played at Hamden Hall, and we beat them 215-216, and I was the medalist on that one with one under par,” Perkins said. “We also played Cheshire Academy at their course and we won that one 149-207.”

The KO golf team has had great success with its relatively young group of players, with only two seniors currently on the varsity team. “I think we will continue to grow,” Perkins said. “All these freshmen in a few years will be seniors and juniors. We should have a very good program for the next few years.”

When thinking of the best new prospects, the team has been buzzing about one of their youngest players. “Jacky Sun, who’s an eighth-grader, is certainly making a name for himself,” Coach Wolf said. “He’s performed very well in the last couple of matches.”

Even though the KO golf team has been one of the smaller sections of our community, they are still breaking down boundaries. “I’ve been very big on promoting girls golf and developing a girls varsity program,” Coach Wolf said. “I am working to develop it as a named sport within the school.”

While practices and matches have been going well, the team still has a few areas to work on. “I’d say our team lacks consistency,” Perkins said. “I’d say some days we can go out as a team and shoot under 200, which is very good, and other days, we’ll be around the 220 stroke mark…you won’t win a match in 220 strokes.”

The team is sure to achieve their goals with hard work and excellent advice from Coach Wolf. Currently, the team is preparing for their matches against Berkshire and Pomfret.

The KO varsity golf team is doing well and everyone at KO is looking forward to seeing what they do next.
