Senior Farewell: Alyssa Temkin

Features

For the past three years, senior Alyssa Temkin has left a lasting impact on the KO News, bringing passion, creativity, and skill. Alyssa joined the KO News after taking journalism her freshman year and served as the Managing Editor for News, Sports, and Investigative this year.

Alyssa joined the KO News hoping to meet new people and have an impact on the community through her writing. Looking back, she has certainly accomplished that goal. “Over the past three years on the KO News, I have been connected with so many amazing students and faculty,” Alyssa said, “and writing for the paper has been one of the most fulfilling experiences that I have taken part in during my time at KO.”

Alyssa’s favorite articles to write have been in the news and sports departments. Alyssa fondly remembers writing the Hockey Night article last year and learning about Ryan Gordon’s story and his continued impact on the KO community and beyond.

Being a journalist has taught Alyssa many valuable lessons. “I have learned how powerful a story can be if you just listen and are open to new ideas,” she said.

This year, Alyssa has enjoyed having her sister, sophomore Lily Temkin, join the KO News staff. “Having my sister join this year has also been super special to me, to be able to do something together at KO in my final year here,” she said.

Alyssa encourages anyone who is considering joining the KO News to go for it. “Even if you are questioning it, go out of your comfort zone, and try something new,” she said. “One of the most valuable lessons that I have learned at KO is to not be afraid to try new things, and I urge everyone to do that.”

The KO News thanks Alyssa for all her hard work and dedication and wishes her the best of luck as she heads off to Trinity College in the fall!
