Artist Of The Month: Molly Palmer

Arts

In the world of art, there are many different forms of expression, from painting to film to writing. Dance is one form of art that is not well recognized, and this month we are highlighting freshman Molly Palmer and her lifelong journey with dance.

Molly has spent a large amount of her life dancing and has many favorite styles. “It’s my 11th year dancing,” Molly pointed out. Tap and jazz are her favorite styles to perform. Molly spent her most recent months working on KO’s musical, “A Chorus Line,” which she said she really enjoyed. “I love the choreographer,” Molly said, “and how much effort she puts into all the musical numbers. And there’s always a challenge when we’re dancing in the musical because we’re doing original choreography. So I always get a challenge, and I’m able to push myself and work on my technique.”

Molly loves all the dances in the musical, but her favorite is the opening number, which she described as really fun. “And it’s a really good way to start off the show,” Molly said.

Molly has worked on a multitude of other musicals outside of KO and also has a few dream musicals she hopes to perform in. “My favorite is ‘Nice Work if You Can Get It,’” Molly said. “I did it at Stagedoor Manor this past summer. And then a dream show to be in or just favorite in general would probably be ‘Hadestown.’”

Molly believes that dancing and the Winter Musical have had a positive effect on the KO community. “It’s a safe space,” Molly explained. “Everyone’s very friendly and open, and in the musical, you’re always able to push yourself.”

Molly is inspired to continue performing and perfecting her craft so she can one day perform on the world’s greatest stage. “The thing that pushes me the hardest to make it is to get to Broadway,” Molly said. “That’s where all my goals are driven towards and why I push myself so I can accomplish my dream.”

Molly also has a lot of plans for her future. “In the future,” Molly explained, “I’ll be working during the Choreographer Showcase and during the musical, and then I plan to take it further into college. And I’m constantly working on technique. I am in dance classes, I take voice lessons. I’m trying to be part of all the musical groups at KO and any art class I can.”

From dancing to singing to acting, Molly excels and brings her passion and commitment to the arts in every endeavor. We here at the KO News cannot wait to see what is in store for Molly, at KO and beyond, and we wish her the best of luck!
