In his first year at KO, junior shooting guard Will Parkhouse is making an impact on the boys varsity basketball team.
Parkhouse has played basketball since he was three years old and has just exploded since then. He has played for his town’s travel team and then an AAU team, and he has been coached by Head Coach Seaman Seaman. Coach Seaman has known Parkhouse since he was in fifth grade. Parkhouse played for Coach Seaman’s Team Moose, and Coach Seaman was eventually able to recruit Parkhouse to KO. “We got him, which was fantastic for the program,” Coach Seaman said. “Will helps build a culture that we’re looking for.”
Parkhouse shared some lessons that this sport has taught him, the most important of which is learning to push through adversity. “If you have a bad game, just go on to the next game and keep pushing through,” he said. Basketball is a fast-moving sport, which is one of the reasons why Parkhouse loves to play—he explained that the fast-paced action keeps him engaged and excited to play. “If you make a mistake on defense, you go get it back on offense, or vice versa,” he explained.
As a junior with college on the horizon, future opportunities have begun to arise for Parkhouse. When asked if he would like to continue playing basketball at the collegiate level, he shared that it would be great if he could. “I definitely want to try and play at a high academic school,” he said. Coach Seaman noted that Parkhouse is invested in his classes and has a high GPA. While the college recruiting process can be a long and stressful one, Parkhouse’s hard work and determination will help him greatly. “With his GPA and with his ability to shoot the ball, I think the door is wide open,” Coach Seaman said. “He’s putting himself in a great position to have his pick [of colleges].”
Coach Seaman shared how Parkhouse truly goes the extra mile in everything he does, noting how he comes in every day at 7 a.m., does yoga, and takes shots. “He took around 20,000 shots in the fall,” Coach Seaman said. “Those count as makes, not just shots.” While Parkhouse is an all-around incredible player, his ability to shoot the ball sets him apart from others. Coach Seaman shared that when Parkhouse was younger, he came in second in the country in a free throw-shooting contest. He explained that Parkhouse has a gift for shooting, but that he has earned the gift. His hard work and effort are why he is such a good shooter.
Parkhouse hit eight three-point shots in the Wyverns’ KITs game against the New York Military Academy. He hit six more against Taft, showing how he has been consistently delivering in big games. “Will stretches the floor,” Coach Seaman said. “He makes everyone else’s job easier.”
In the Wyverns most recent game Parkhouse led the Wyverns to a victory over Westminster with 20 points and solid defense. Parkhouse hit some huge threes that gave the wyverns momentum late in the second half.
If you can make sure to check out Parkhouse and the boys varsity basketball team as the season comes to an end and the Wyverns hope to make a playoff push.
