Senior Goodbye Profiles – Ben LaFreniere

As graduation creeps around the corner, it’s time for senior and Associate Editor for Sports Ben LaFreniere to say goodbye.

After taking journalism during the first semester of junior year, Ben joined the KO News during the second semester to wrap up his junior year.

When the opportunity presented itself to Ben to write for the newspaper, he was excited for a chance to be involved in a new extracurricular and get to know the people in his community in a different way. “I think I’ve had a really great experience at KO, and it’s interesting to get to interact with people in a different light, like learn more about your community,” Ben said.

When asked about his experience writing for the KO News, Ben only had positive things to reflect on. “I feel like it pushed me to become a better writer and ask better questions,” Ben said. “I have had a really positive experience though, and I feel like I’ve gotten to interact with my peers in a really different light too, which I think has been good.”

He is most proud of his article “KO’s annual Girls in Sports Day has another successful year” because the athletic staff were very knowledgeable and gave great information about their experiences giving back to the community in such a positive way. “I think that the athletic staff and just our students have done a really good job speaking to their experiences and how to give back to the community,” Ben said. “So I think those were really good interviews and that came out as a good piece.”

Good luck at Tulane, Ben! KO will miss you and your appreciation for sports and news writing. The News staff sends a huge thank you for all your hard work.
