Softball moving on to the NEPSAC finals!

The KO Wyvern softball team has followed up last year’s championship season, with an even stronger record of 10-3, and another championship title after beating St. Luke’s in the semifinals and Choate in the championship game.

Throughout the year, the girls have won many important games, but none as important as the semifinal game that took place last Saturday, May 17.

Sophomore pitcher Alexis Nisyrios pitched flawlessly, letting up one run on two hits to help set up the Wyvern bats.

Multiple hits from junior first base Olivia Doran and Nisyrios helped the Wyverns sneak past the storm. Including Doran laying down a smooth bunt to score freshman catcher Remi Rosado in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 2-1.

At the plate, Nisyrios scored another insurance run in the top of the seventh, and later struck out two batters in the bottom of the frame to help clinch the game.

The biggest key to the Wyvern’s success this year has been their team chemistry. Despite the team being a majority of underclassmen, many of the players are returning for the second or even third years on the squad! The team this year is made up of almost all returners with just one new player, so they are using this to their advantage. “We all know each other’s strengths and skill sets, and we use it to our advantage,” Nisyrios said.

Another strength that the girls have utilized to continue getting better day in and out, is having a communal sense of love for the game of softball.

“It makes my job so easy when everybody is excited and engaged to come to practice everyday,” Head Coach Jason Bradley said.

“ Looking around at practice there is a lot of hard work being put into drills, but not without  a lot of laughs going on in between, everybody gets along and they truly love playing the game together,” Bradley said.

The team full of talent often has no trouble scoring runs as they have averaged nine a game up to this point, while only giving up an average of three.

The team rounded out the regular season winning four of the last five with notable wins over Williston Northampton (4-0) on May 10, and Suffield Academy (10-4) on May 14. Only falling in a nailbiter to Loomis Chaffee 3-2 on May 12.

The girls took on Choate Rosemary Hall after they defeated St. Luke’s. The Wyverns traveled down to Wallingford to take on the Wild Boars on their home turf.  In typical Wyvern fashion, the bats were hot, and they put up nine runs on Choate. They only let up five runs, and this earned the Wyverns a 9-5 victory.

The Wyverns once again came out on top in New England, bringing the first-place trophy back to campus for the second straight season.

For a small day school, KO truly has put together a terrific softball program and has done a tremendous job taking on Founders League opponents and for the most part defeating them.

The Wyvern community is so proud of everything that the softball program has accomplished, and we look forward to seeing what the program can do in the future.

Congratulations to the 2025 girls varsity softball team on a phenomenal season filled with many wins and memories!
