POW DONUTS AND DREAMBOARDS EVENT

News

Power of Women held the Donuts and Dreamboards event to unite the Upper Prep girls and the Upper School girls on Thursday, Oct. 9, in the KO Middle School.

This event took place from 8-9 on a Thursday morning, so the students and faculty on the committee had to arrive early to set up and prepare complimentary donuts and hot chocolate for the Upper Prep and Upper School girls. Additionally, they created groups for designing their own dream boards, allowing different people to bond with one another.

Eighth-grader London Veseskis expressed the joy that she experienced from the event. “My favorite part was being able to meet new people from the Upper School and having conversations with people I’ve never talked to before,” London said.

The Middle Schoolers weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the Upper Schoolers’ company. Senior Advisor Sanya Sadiq expressed the joy that she felt talking to the Middle Schoolers, “It’s really cool to be able to connect with the younger girls,” Sanya said, “especially since I’m a senior advisor now, so I see some of my advisees, and it’s just nice to know what they’re up to.”

All girls brought in at least three photos of their choice that displayed family, friends, pets, and people who were meaningful to them.“I think that’s a great opportunity for the Middle Schoolers because I think a lot of them felt more comfortable with the Upper Schoolers,” Director of Leadership Jayne Rotter said. “During the day, Middle School and the Upper School are very separate. My hope and one of the goals is that when a Middle School girl and an Upper School girl see each other on campus, they check in with each other, that there’s someone in the Upper School or there’s someone in the Middle School who wants to connect.”

To make this event come to life, it took hard work from the Power of Women Committee, especially from Mrs. Rotter and two girls from the Big Sister/Little Sister committee, senior Katie Reale and junior Ellory Goodhue, who played a significant role in helping this event succeed. Mrs. Rotter expressed her gratitude for the students’ help. “It’s because of the students’ involvement that this event is so successful,” she said.

A total of 110 Upper School and Upper Prep girls brought in photos and decorated their own boards. 110 girls were able to bond together while eating doughnuts, laughing, and sharing a special part of themselves. “Every year, we try to come up with creative ways to bring the KO community, specifically the Upper School and Upper Prep girls, together,” she said. “The girls came up with the ideas, donuts, and dream boards. So that’s really, it was just sort of a fun way to bring Upper School and Middle School girls together.”

One of the missions of Power of Women is to strengthen the bonds between girls and bring them together. “Part of the mission of the Power of Women is that everybody has a place in the power of women,” Mrs. Rotter said. “Ultimately, the power of women is about giving, making sure that everybody’s heard and everybody has a voice on campus.”
